How the Earth Air Tunnel Works:
The system consists of an air inlet, an underground tunnel (at least 2 meters deep), and an air outlet into the building. The earth maintains a relatively constant temperature, which helps moderate incoming air before it enters the house.
1. In Summer (Cooling Effect)
- Outside Temperature: 35°C (hot air enters).
- Underground Tunnel Temperature: Around 25°C.
- Indoor Temperature: 25°C (cooled air enters the home).
Process:
- Hot air is drawn in through the air inlet.
- As it passes through the underground tunnel, the cooler earth absorbs heat from the air, reducing its temperature to about 25°C.
- This cooler air then enters the house, maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature.
Result: The system naturally cools the home without the need for air conditioning.
2. In Winter (Heating Effect)
- Outside Temperature: 6°C (cold air enters).
- Underground Tunnel Temperature: Around 16°C.
- Indoor Temperature: 16°C (warmed air enters the home).
Process:
- Cold air is drawn in through the air inlet.
- As it travels through the underground tunnel, it absorbs heat from the warmer earth, raising its temperature to around 16°C.
- This pre-warmed air then enters the house, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
Result: The system naturally heats the home without the need for electrical heating.
