"This is a simple rocket grill, built almost for free. (The only thing we purchased was the GRILL itself.)
The materials used are clay soil, sand, and straw. Each step-by-step photo in the album explains how to build the grill.
The way it works is that THE WOOD GETS FED INTO A 2-PART CHAMBER at the bottom. Airflow under the wood ensures plenty of oxygen and a super hot fire. The back of the fuel chamber forms an "L" up to the grill. The principle is this: the higher and/or hotter the flue chamber, the hotter your fire will be. So by creating a tall flue for the fire, you create the "rocket" effect where it pulls even more air into the lower chamber and allows the WOOD TO BURN EVEN HOTTER. (You an actually hear ???this...sounds a bit like a ROCKET LAUNCH...hence the name.)
The beauty is that you can COOK ON HIGH HEAT WITH RELATIVELY LITTLE FUEL. And you can use smaller bits of wood. We cook entire meals with a dozen twigs.
