Creating Roads From Sand and Bacteria Instead of Oil | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building

Creating Roads From Sand and Bacteria Instead of Oil | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building
The designers’ plan would create roads from abundantly available sand mixed with the microbe Bacillus Pasteurii, which would cement it into a biologically engineered hardened sandstone. The idea is that this sand/microbe solution could then be sprayed onto a layer of sand, which would then harden it into a tough road surface.

Facebook - Stone ibuilt up from the ground and cob sculpted above

Here is a great example showing that walls need to have a base. In this case stone is built up from the ground and cob is sculpted above the stone. The base of a wall is often the weight distributor. And like a good pair of boots, it keeps your primary wall system nice & dry (from melting snow or rain splash). If you inspect an old building (that has lasted a century or more), you undoubtedly find a good base keeping the wall system protected.
